Health systems are some of the most intricate systems we encounter, and transforming them can seem daunting, even for our most experienced leaders. We often feel helpless when faced with persistent "wicked" challenges. But what if the ability to create change isn't just for a select few? What if leaders like us adopted a few simple daily habits and became extraordinary agents of change?
This summer, we encourage you to read Everyday Habits for Transforming Systems: The Catalytic Power of Radical Engagement by Adam Kahane — a Member of the Order of Canada and a leading expert in designing and facilitating multi-stakeholder change processes. Drawing from thirty years of experience with change makers in over fifty countries, Kahane presents seven daily habits that empower everyday leaders to achieve remarkable results.
The core concept of the book is radical engagement — actively participating in a system with hope and curiosity, being hands-on and persistent, and engaging reciprocally and relationally, rather than from a distance or with skepticism. Join the Vernissage Health leadership community for a hosted discussion to explore these habits and how you've applied or wish to apply them in your own work.
In this session, scheduled for October, we will set aside time for small group storytelling among health leaders at various career stages, reflecting on how we have transformed or wish to transform the systems we lead and serve. Our discussions are always guided by the Vernissage Health dialogue touchstones, ensuring a safe space for sharing leadership stories. These stories will help us uncover the inner work required for change and explore how we can shift from feeling powerless to creating the change we desire.
Register for the upcoming virtual Vernissage Health book discussion on Monday, October 26th, 2026 from 7 - 8:30pm. Reflective questions to accompany your reading will be provided to early registrants!
Happy reading!
