Last Chance to Apply: Vernissage Health Programs for IHPME Students and Alumni in 2025

"Good stories surprise us. They make us think and feel. They stick in our minds and help us remember ideas and concepts in a way that Power Points crammed with bar graphs never can."

– The Storytelling Edge

Deepen and refine your own leadership practice, through the unique practice of dialogue and storytelling, during and after your IHPME graduate studies. Students and alumni in all IHPME programs are encouraged to apply to these unique immersive experiences in health leadership.

Applications are open until November 15, 2024 in two Vernissage Health Programs:

  • Early Career Health Leaders (ECHL) Program: This program is for IHPME alumni, who have completed a graduate degree in health care in the past ten years and who are currently in leadership roles in health (leadership roles are broadly defined to include leadership positions or roles in health organizations as well as leadership in health advocacy or community development).

  • Student Dialogue Series: This program is for IHPME students who are currently enrolled in an graduate program in health care who aspire to leadership roles in health.

For more information about either program, please contact Wendy Nelson, Founder and Project Lead at wendy.nelson@utoronto.ca.  To listen to the experiences of past participants or determine the program best suited to your needs, please visit www.vernissagehealth.com

Overview

Both programs bring together two leadership groups in a "circle of trust"  for dialogue about health leadership: leaders embarking on careers in health leadership (early career and emerging health leaders) and mid- to late-career leaders with experience across broad sectors in health (established leaders). Dialogue sessions provide a unique opportunity for participants to self-reflect, share stories, and exchange ideas about leadership in a safe, intimate, small group setting. Breakout groups provide an opportunity for networking and relationship building between established and emerging leaders.

In the ECHL program, the dialogue experiences goes deeper and includes a comprehensive leadership self assessment plus 1:1 coaching sessions with mentors. The support of faculty and dedicated leadership mentors, allows early career leaders an opportunity to turn reflections about health leadership into immediate action in their lives and careers.

Ultimately, these experiences support and develop early career and emerging health leaders to successfully navigate the complexities of leadership and create positive change within Canada’s health system.

Logistics

In each program, the dialogue series consists of a series of six small group sessions — or “hosted conversations” – scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays from January to April, 2025. There is one introductory in-person session in January and other sessions are held online (using Zoom). Dates for each program will be made available to applicants.
